Promising games to remember for 2019

Gamescom comes to an end on Saturday, August 25. Once again the world’s largest gaming event showed us some very promising upcoming games. I will present you six great (horror/psychological) adventures that will hit the consoles in 2019. Get ready – and anticipate a large gaming budget for 2019!

1/ Twin Mirror or using your Mind Palace

In this psychological thriller players control the investigative journalist Sam, who has returned to his hometown of Basswood, West Virginia, to bury an old friend. However, Sam wakes up in his hotel room with a bloody T-shirt and no memory of where he spent last night… he has to embark on an exciting investigation and make a series of effective decisions to find out the truth. Sam has one talent which will help him for its investigation: his Mind Palace – a place he can access at will, create memories of the past and play through possible scenarios.

Twin Mirror is developed by Dontnod Entertainment (Life is Strange) and will be released in 2019 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

 

2/ Resident Evil 2 or the beyond belief remake

Originally released in 1998, Resident Evil 2 will receive its already announced remake early 2019. After 20 years, it’s time to go back to Racoon City and find the two protagonists Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield. There, cruel things happened at the Spencer Villa in the Arklay Mountains. This transformed the metropolis into a real nightmare for residents and visitors alike…

The survival horror Resident Evil 2 uses the same game engine as for Resident Evil 7 and features “over-the-shoulder” third-person shooter gameplay similar to Resident Evil 4. It is scheduled to be released worldwide for the PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One on January 25, 2019.

 

3/ A Plague Tale or a lot of rats

A Plague Tale: Innocence plays in the plague-stricken Middle Ages, where the young siblings Amicia and Hugo fight for survival. In the gameplay video released on Gamescom you can see Amicia and her little brother fighting their way through France in 1349 and dealing with an impressive plague of rats. The small rodents can also be used to defeat enemies.

The setting and the graphics are extraordinary; the story seems promising. A Plague Tale should be released in 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

 

4/ Man of Medan or Until Dawn 2

Supermassive Games (Until Dawn) are planning a multi-part horror game series with The Dark Pictures Anthology. It starts 2019 with Man of Medan on PS4 and Xbox One.

Man of Medan deals with a group of American teenagers who unleash mysterious powers on a party-heavy treasure hunt on the high seas. The relaxed excursion quickly turns into a dark struggle for survival. Supermassive Games again promises decisions that affect the course of the story. Thus, the player decides on his actions, who survives the story with healthy skin and who falls victim to the evil powers. Sounds like Until Dawn 2?

 

5/ Control or the bizarre world

Remedy, the studio that brought you the great Alan Wake (2010) and the interesting Quantum Break (2016), presented its new game: Control, released next year for PS4, XONE and PC.

In this very strange game, you play Jesse Faden, a young agent who has become a director in tragic circumstances in the mysterious Federal Bureau of Control. As a director she receives a mysterious pistol that only she can use. She also has telekinetic forces and must fight against a dark entity… The true highlight of Control is the bizarre game world; see for yourself in the gameplay trailer!

 

6/ The Sinking City or Lovecraft love

And finally the Lovecraft adventure The Sinking City has caught my interest. It will be released on March 21, 2019 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

The gameplay trailer shows the protagonist of The Sinking City, a private detective, working in the fictional city of Oakmont in America in the 1920s, which was hit by heavy floods. Accordingly, you will often travel by boat. A mysterious force drives the locals mad and it’s up to the protagonist to unravel the mystery before he loses his mind. Especially the depressing atmosphere of the game world can be felt in the trailer…

After Call of Cthulhu (October 30, 2018) it will be the second important Lovecraft game!
