The Six Best Original Horror Movies For Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner and you’re probably wondering which horror movie to watch this year. There are so many creepy movies out there and it’s really hard to find the really good ones among them. No, not again watching Friday the 13th, Halloween or A Nightmare on Elm Street (original or remake)… That’s why we’ve put together a list of the six best original horror films for Halloween. Find your inspiration!

1/ It Follows (2014)

It Follows by David Robert Mitchell shines with its great actors, especially Maika Monroe, and a great atmosphere of fear. The horror movie captures the discomfort of being a teenager perfectly and gets under your skin. Our absolute recommendation for a successful Halloween evening!

2/ The Witch (2015)

If you’re a fan of witch trials and like creeping psychological horror, this unusual film is for you. Robert Egger’s historically accurate film leaves the viewer disturbed. Perfectly staged, The Witch convinces especially because of the great acting performance of Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, Glass)!

3/ Rosemary’s Baby (1986)

This is the classic in our selection! Roman Polanski’s 1986 masterpiece is just as disturbing today. Such a nightmarish pregnancy was probably never to be seen in the cinema again! The horror slowly emerges from the seemingly ‘normal’ everyday reality of modern city life, which is the breeding ground for fear, alienation and paranoia. You could even say a highly topical film!

4/ The Cabin in the Woods (2011)

The film by Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon (Avengers) is one of the modern original horror films. It’s so different, so intelligent and so entertaining that not only horror film fans should watch it! Not to give away too much of the story: It is about a cabin in the woods… The perfect movie to have a good time with your friends at Halloween!

5/ Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (1992)

David Lynch‘s film is not exactly considered a classic horror film, yet the scares and the nightmarish atmosphere will get under your skin. Even more than with a “normal” horror movie. The last days in the life of Laura Palmer are a fascinating study of terror, fear and violence. Watch at your own risk! Emotionally, you’re going to be a wreck…

6/ Evil Dead (2013)

The only remake on this list. But this one here is a bless! Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe) has congenially modernized the cult horror film Evil Dead (1981). His version meets all the requirements of modern horror film with its realistic violence, but does without boring digital special effects. You want gore and bloddy violence for Halloween? Then this is the perfect movie!
